EBay Monday launched its first Southeast Asian site with Vietnamese partner, PeaceSoft-IDG-Softbank.

The new online auction and selling site, at www.ebay.chodientu.vn and www.ebay.vn, is the third in Asia, after Japan and South Korea.

PeaceSoft Solutions Corporation General Director Nguyen Hoa Binh said Vietnamese consumers were keen on overseas goods but they sometimes had difficulty arranging payment.

The new site will allow customers to buy and pay for the products in Vietnam by opening an account.

Shoppers can deposit money into their eBay accounts at local banks, including Vietcombank, DongA Commercial Bank, Techcombank and Vietnam International Bank.

Once a payment has been processed, goods will be delivered in around two weeks, Binh said.

It has been becoming increasing popular for Vietnamese to shop online, but I think more awareness campaign about it still needed in Vietnam.
