Mekong Capital invests $9.4 million in food producer

Private equity firm Mekong Capital has invested US$9.4 million in Masan Food Corporation, a Vietnam-based sauce, noodle and condiment producer.

The investment was routed through Mekong Capital’s $100 million Vietnam Azalea Fund (VAF), Mekong Capital announced in late May.

VAF, Mekong Capital’s third fund, focuses on investing in Vietnamese companies at the pre-listing stage.

Mekong Capital said Masan Food’s branding, research and development capabilities and wide distribution network made it a worthy investment.

Masan Food is the eighth company VAF has invested in since it was set up in 2007. To date VAF has invested $64 million.

Established in 2001, Ho Chi Minh City-based Mekong Capital is a private equity and venture capital firm which invests in private companies based in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

Masan Food Corporation makes fish sauce, soy sauce, chili sauce, instant noodles and granules sold under well-recognized brands such as Chinsu, Tam Thai Tu, Nam Ngu, Omachi and Tien Vua.
