Some of the big names in Vietnamese fashion will strut their stuff in Hanoi during the annual Vietnam International Fashion Fair (VIFF) from November 18 to 24.
VIFF is aimed at creating an opportunity for local and overseas fashion trade professionals to promote their products and find business partners for the 100 or so local and international companies attending the event.
On display at the 300 booth, seven-day fair, will be fashion collections, leather and footwear products, jewelry, hair fashion, and garment materials and accessories.
VIFF 2009 will also include a ceremony marking Vietnam’s official entrance into the Asian Fashion Federation at the Quan Ngua Sports Complex in Hanoi on November 22.
Visitors to the fair’s venue at the Cultural Friendship Palace in Hanoi will have a chance to enjoy nightly fashion shows and a fashion design contest for college students from northern Vietnam.
Vinatex general director, Vu Duc Giang, told Vietnam News Agency that in the face of the global economic recession, the garment sector has taken the initiative to find new niche export markets and is putting more of a focus on the domestic market.
He expected the industry to growth by 1-3 percent this year and generate more than US$9 billion in export turnover.
VIFF is an annual event, held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The HCMC edition of this year’s fair was held earlier in July with the participation of 150 local and foreign companies.
Last year’s event in Hanoi attracted 50,000 visitors.
