Work finally got underway on the US$100 million five-star Raffles Hotel and Residences in central Danang on Monday.

Backed by the VinGroup, the 142 hotel rooms and 39 villas will be housed on Non Nuoc Beach.

The project was originally licensed to US-based Magnum Company; then given to Kingdom Hotel Investments and the European Hotel Corporation before finally being transferred to Ukraine-based VinGroup, which was previously called Technocom.

The project will sit on what Forbes magazine called one the world’s most beautiful beaches in 2005.

Nicknamed China Beach by American troops during the war, the area was a hotspot for U.S. soldiers on leave.

The road running adjacent to the beach has been nick-named “Five-Star Road” for the multi-million dollar tourism projects built along the throughway.
