Photography enthusiasts are lining up to show off their endurance and creativity as part of the Canon Photo Marathon Vietnam 2009, this month.
Held in Hanoi on October 3 and in HCMC seven days later, this year’s competition in Vietnam is the first leg of the Canon Photo Marathon Asia 2009 held across Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and India.
Created by Japanese camera giant Canon, the unique competition only runs for one day with the winners announced at the end of the competition.
Participants are required to create different shots inspired from three separate themes.
They are given three hours to complete each thematic work, before returning to the contest location with their pictures to download them onto the server before the next theme is revealed.
The Hanoi leg, held on October 3, found four winners, including a grand prize winner and three winners whose works topped the themes of: “Family,” “New Vietnam,” “Red – Emerald.”
Each winner was awarded a Canon IXUS 100 IS digital camera and a Canon compact photo printer.
A similar competition will take place in HCMC on October 10.
The two winners from Hanoi and HCMC will join other winning photographers from the other five countries to take part in an expenses-paid eight-day Photo Clinic in Japan.
Tuition will be given by professional photographer Triston Yeo, who is acknowledged by Asian Geographic as one of the Best Photographers of the Decade.
