The Crowne International Casino in Danang City will open its doors on Wednesday after two years of construction to become the first gambling venue in the central coastal destination.
The 1.5 hectare casino is part of the US$160 million Silver Shores International Resort which includes the casino and a hotel and resort complex.
The 20-hectare resort, developed by the Hoang Dat Silver Shores Exceptional International Entertainment Co., Ltd, is located some seven kilometers away from downtown Danang City.
The Crowne International Casino can accommodate hundreds of people at a time to play Baccarat, Blackjack, Sic bo, Roulette and Caribbean Stud Pokers, according to the firm.
The company told The Saigon Times Daily the first group of customers to the venue would come from China, one of the casino’s target markets besides Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The venue only allows foreigners and overseas Vietnamese under the country’s current regulation.
A new air route between China’s Guangzhou City and Danang will be launched on January 15 next year to bring Chinese tourists to the casino in the initial stage.
Another air route from China to Danang is also under consideration, according to the firm.
Felix Zhang, general manager of the Silver Shores International Resort, said the soft opening of the resort is scheduled for January next year, offering its first 270 rooms for visitors.
The five-star resort consists of 584 deluxe rooms and suites, 52 villas with ocean view as well as other facilities, such as restaurants, bars, spa, fitness center and retail shops.
Zhang said the resort not only targeted visitors from Asian markets, including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan but also local tourists.
The grand opening of the resort is due to July next year, according to Zhang.
Danang has received about 1.3 million visitors so far this year, two-third of whom are Vietnamese.
Located near key tourist attractions in central Vietnam, including UNESCO-listed Hoi An Town, former imperial Hue City, Danang has become a venue for international hotel management firms, such as InterContinental Hotels Group, Accor, Life Resorts and Hyatt.
According to market research company Savills Vietnam, the city currently has 23 hotels and resorts rated three stars and above, providing 1,700 rooms.
The company forecast the central city would have about 42 hotel developments with some 7,000 three- to five-star hotel rooms in the next five years.
Casino development is considered a controversial topic in Vietnam as tourism developers have been calling for more relaxed policies regarding the operation of licensed casinos and gambling activities among Vietnamese.
Vietnamese, in fact, have been visiting other countries in the region, such as Thailand, Cambodia and Singapore, to gamble for years, as they are banned from entering local casinos.
