Indonesian airline to suspend HCMC, Jakarta route
Tuoi Tre

Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has announced the suspension of its daily service between Ho Chi Minh City and Jakarta via Singapore from November 25 to December 31.

The national airline told Tuoi Tre it is offering refunds for customers who booked flights during the suspension period.

The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam said it has yet to receive the airline’s suspension notice.

Launched in 2004, the route takes one hour and 45 minutes from HCMC to Singapore, and another half an hour in transit before boarding the connecting flight to Jakarta.

About 70 percent of passengers flying between HCMC and Jakarta travel for business while most passengers on the HCMC – Bali via Jakarta or Singapore route are holidaymakers, The Saigon Times Daily reported.

The airline is using Boeing 737-400s which can carry up to 188 passengers.

Garuda Indonesia is also planning to open a new direct route between the two directions next year.

But the airline said it needed more time to promote Indonesian attractions to Vietnamese tourists.

The carrier’s current network covers 45 destinations, four of which are Southeast Asian destinations, including Bangkok, HCMC, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
