HCMC puts pedal down on new road
Ngoc An

Ho Chi Minh City town hall has rebuffed a request by the city’s transport department to delay the completion of a new road, calling for work to be wrapped up within three months.

The HCMC People’s Committee instructed the Department of Planning and Investment and the Metropolitan Traffic Unit No.4 to finish building Nguyen Van Tao Street in December this year to link up with the new port – Saigon Premier Container Terminal.

Last month, Nguyen Xuan Bang, director of Traffic Unit No.4, said construction of the access road may be delayed till June next year, despite being due to finish this year.

The US$4.3 million road will also link up to the Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park in Nha Be District.

The 38-hectare SPCT is located on the banks of Soai Rap River, just 15km from downtown.
