Health authorities on Tuesday confirmed the death, bringing the total fatalities in Vietnam to 40.

The girl was admitted to hospital on Nov 5 with a fever, cough and chest pains.

She was then transferred to the National Institute of Contagious and Tropical Diseases as her condition worsened.

The girl was treated with the antiviral drug Tamiflu before testing positive for influenza A (H1N1) virus but died on Nov 7.

As of Tuesday, Vietnam has reported 10,791 cases of swine flu infections, including 40 fatalities.
